Blue Runner was built in 1969 in Gothenburg in Sweden from oak on mahogany by renowned and still operational boatbuilders, Storebro (Swedish for Big Brother). The boat won several offshore trophies in the 1970s.
Blue Runner was first imported for an owner in Yorkshire and spent time cruising the East Coast. We purchased Blue Runner in 2001 and began by extensively refitting her accomodation and navigation gear. Two years later we re-built her engines. And in 2011 we refurbed the hull replacing many planks using traditional methods. The work was carried out by Master Shipwright John Turk.
Whilst in our care Blue Runner has crossed the Channel 8 times including the long passage from Ramsgate to Dunkique. She has cruised the Dutch inland seas and the French and Belgian canal systems.
She is a very sea-worthy boat, being heavier than a comparable GRP vessel and although her speed is stately (10 knots), she is a comforable and economical cruiser suited to the river, estuary or continental canal.
Sadly, due to a loft extension at home, she has to find another family who'll care for her as much as we have.
